Breakdown

Wasn’t it long ago
Wasn’t it on a new england coast
Wasn’t it the standard - people praying to
The son and the father and the holy ghost
One nation over god
Is that what we’ve now become?

The founding fathers left a noble legacy
To their sons and daughters
To their sons and daughters
Look at what we’ve done
Look at what we’ve done

In the song "Breakdown" Michael W Smith sings about how far our country has strayed from the path that our founding fathers set it in. I am a big Smitty fan and I get a lot out of his music, so I couldn't help but post this.

It seems like every time you turn on the TV you hear something about how our nation is trying to sever it's roots that are planted deep in God and His Word. From "un-consitutional" displays of the ten commandments, to the pledge of allegiance, to taking the phrase "In God We Trust" off our currency. And, even further the Terri Shaivo battle, the ongoing issue of abortion, and being able to teach kids about intelligent design in the schools.

Breakdown, breakdown, breakdown
As we learn to bite the hand
That tries to feed us

Breakdown, breakdown, breakdown

The chorus of this song rings so true! Our nation has truely learned how to bite the hand of God that tries to feed and sustain us. How can we say "God Bless America" when he already has so richly done so? Why do we run back to God when there is a national tradgedy such as 9/11, but then completely forget about Him and try to get rid of Him when the danger has subsided?

The battle isn't about keeping religion in our government, that battle is about keeping our nation alive. The day we finally sever our ties with God will be the day this mighty nation will fall much like ancient Roman civilization did. We start questioning morals, and ultimate truth, and authority and ultimately where we end up is a country in complete devestation.

The reason our country is so mighty is not because of our massive and well-equipped armed forces, it's not because of our riches, and it's not because of our powerful politicians. The reason our country is so great is because of our great founding fathers carving our nation on the solid foundation of the Word of God. Lose the foundation and the building crumbles—lose God and the nation is destroyed.

See the powder on the glass
See the pillow on the street
See the charter of a modern love
With no obligations...or promises to meet
Hear the fear of disease
Hear the baby never born
Hear a people crying out
Somebody save us - oh, please somebody save us
From what we’re headed for - from what we’re headed for
